BDsoft ShutDownClient
Overview
About
- The BDsoft ShutDownClient waits for shut down commands received via network and then shuts down the computer. The command itself is usually given by the Server part of the BDsoft DeskMaster.
- The BDsoft ShutDownClient listens at port 50,000 for shut down messages. If it receives one, it checks IP, username and password. If these parameters fit, it will inform the user that it has received a shut down command and will wait for 60 seconds for the user to abort the operation. If not aborted, it will then send a shut down command to the operating system.
- If your computer is set up properly, you may also restart your system with the Server part of the BDsoft DeskMaster (but this is independent of the BDsoft ShutDownClient...)
- The BDsoft ShutDownClient was developed to avoid computers running the whole night or weekend, just because they were not turned off by their last user. With the combination of the BDsoft DeskMaster it is possible to shut down these "forgotten" computers from one central "server".
- Please remark: The program was developed for groups, where the IP of every computer is known! So you have to know the IP of your computers!
- All versions are based on the same code. Higher versions indicate additional functions.
- Version 3: This version can basically just shut down computers - so it does what it was meant for...
- Version 4: This version adds the capability of displaying the current screen content of the remote computer on the computer running the Server part of the BDsoft DeskMaster. This function may be disabled and might be blocked by the network or the firewall, so please try if it works with you... (Port numbers 50000 - 50002 are used...). Version 4 also introduces the option to send a message to the remote computer via the BDsoft DeskMaster, which is then displayed on screen.
- Version 5: This version offers the ability to control the computer via the Server part of the BDsoft DeskMaster in a VNC-like but still very basic way. However, it is better than walking through the whole building to do one click...
- Version 6: This version adds support for executing and terminating files/programs. Besides it can transfer single files to the Server part of the BDsoft DeskMaster.
- Version 7: This version adds support for shut down commands via e-mail. Thus, there is no strict need for knowing the IP of the computer to be shut down anymore.
Installation
- The BDsoft ShutDownClient does not need any special installation.
- Just copy the program file and - if you already have one - a suitable "ShutDownClient.ini" file in a directory on the system you want to shut down via network.
- Then start the program manually once.
- If you did not have an appropriate ini-file, you can make all settings after the first start in the program itself. When asked for the password, just leave it blank at the first start to unlock the controls.
